Das irdische Leben
Earthly Life

anon

Mother, O Mother give me some bread,
I’m starving now and will soon be dead!
Hush, bide a while, my dearest one,
Tomorrow we will sow, for sure.
But when the sowing had been done
The child cried out just as before:

Mother, O Mother give me some bread,
I’m starving now and will soon be dead!
Hush, bide a while, my dearest one,
Tomorrow we will reap, for sure.
But when the reaping had been done
The child cried out just as before:

Mother, O Mother give me some bread,
I’m starving now and will soon be dead!
Hush, bide a while, my dearest one,
Tomorrow we will thresh, for sure.
But when the threshing had been done
The child cried out just as before:

Mother, O Mother give me some bread,
I’m starving now and will soon be dead!
Hush, bide a while, my dearest one,
Tomorrow we will mill the flour.
But when the milling had been done
The child cried out just as before:

Mother, O Mother give me some bread,
I’m starving now and will soon be dead!
Hush, bide a while, my dearest one,
Tomorrow we will bake, for sure.
But when the baking had been done
The child lay dead and called no more.
